Vintage Car Review: The Pontiac

These two guys paved the way to make the Pontiac fever possible. Edward Murphy was the founder of the Pontiac Buggy Company which is located in Pontiac, Michigan. That was where the name was derived.

Back then, Pontiac was a place where horse-drawn carriages were produced. It was a place that searches for evolution in their automobile.

Brush, on the other hand, was the one who was responsible for designing the Cadillac's of the early years. He later became the engineering consultant in Detroit, Michigan. Destiny must have been pointing at something because in year 1906, these two significant personalities met.

They became friends and talked about the cars they're dealing with. Brush showed Murphy his kind of design wherein a small two-cylinder car is pictured out. It was a design that Cadillac rejected. Murphy, convinced by Brushes ingenious idea bought the design and decided that it should bear the name Oakland.

Summer of year 1907. Murphy has organized a motor company named Oakland Motor Car Company, although there have been a problem with the system. Because of lack of sales, the cylindrical vertical engine which rotated counter clockwise convinced him that Cadillac must have done a perfect decision on rejecting the design Brush had intellectually referred.

In the year 1909, there has been an increased demand of the 40hp four-cylinder cars that has a sliding-gear transmission. It became successful at that time but the unfortunate death of Murphy never gave him a chance to experience increased sales.

Before he passed, Murphy met a former buggy guy named William Durant. Oakland Car Company became a part of Durant's motor empire and the design evolved under his standard and rule.

Oakland's model was recognized by the coming of 1924. This model has an L-head engine, centralized controls, automatic spark advance, four wheel brakes and a paint of Blue nitro-cellulose lacquer.

It was then during the year 1926 when Pontiac was introduced as a companion car and had been an instant success. Over the years, Pontiac has been dominating the car industry scene with designs that are labelled to be very unique with classic attire.

Ever considering buying a vintage car? Get a load of these tips on how to inspect an actual vintage car without having any problems whatsoever after purchasing it.

Acquire all documents and paperwork needed.

It is very important to see the original document a car has to be sure that the car is not stolen or smuggled or something even close to products of carjacking. If you have a certain preference that the car must be an original vintage car, you have to inspect if any changes, modifications or changes are done to the car.

Make sure that the VIN on the document will match the VIN on the vehicle, if it already has one. No signs of alterations must be present. If it has been restored, ask for past pictures before it has undergone such a project.

Completely drain your cooling system.
